Run and Walk For Food and Shelter

27th Annual NSKS Run & Walk for Food & Shelter

UPDATE:

COVID-19 has changed the way we think about many things including the simple and enjoyable act of running or walking in large groups.

Unfortunately with the many unanswered questions pertaining to COVID-19 and public safety in large groups, we have had to make the difficult decision
to cancel the 27th annual NSKS Run/Walk for Food & Shelter in 2020.

But we aren’t just cancelling our event; we are cancelling our second largest Nashua Soup Kitchen & Shelter fundraiser.

Whether walking or running as an individual or a team,
your registration helps NSKS:

  • Put hot, nutritious meals on the tables of our soup kitchen every day
  • Purchase and stock much-needed grocery items for our Food Pantry shelves
  • Keep the lights and heat on at our two emergency homeless shelters for families and single men & women
  • Keep families in their own homes if facing eviction
  • Keep lights or heat on if a shut off notice has been issued
  • Purchase gallons of milk and dozens of eggs to give out with our family emergency food boxes every week
We don’t only appreciate this race, we depend on it to continue the work of the Nashua Soup Kitchen and Shelter, bettering our community. This event and the monies received are a part of our annual budget and now that we find ourselves in one of the toughest financial crises of our lifetime, there are even more families in our community that rely on our services.

Of course, this pandemic has also shifted the amount of in-kind and financial donations received here at NSKS. Restaurants and many other businesses that typically support NSKS are closed and struggling themselves. This means your registration is even more vital to the success of our many programs.

Our race policy is like most others and does not provide refunds of registrations, even when the race is cancelled. However, we will convert your registration to a donation which you can take as a deduction on your taxes because we are a non-profit agency.

Our dedicated staff and just a handful of volunteers are continuing to provide for our community which has a growing need during this pandemic. Some of what we have been doing to assist our community are:

  • Packaging up Take Out boxes for folks coming in for a hot meal for both breakfast and dinner
  • Greeting our clients 3 times a week, following CDC guidelines, to provide bags of groceries
  • Visiting the New Hampshire Food Bank 3 times a week, instead of just once, to purchase produce and other food items
  • Teaming up with the Nashua YMCA and United Way of Nashua to stock 8 pop-up mobile food pantries with fresh perishables in our area each week due to COVID-19 and help folks not able to come to us
  • Providing 800 frozen dinners for our Meals for Kids program each week
  • Sending, with the help of the Boys & Girls Club, hundreds of pounds of fresh produce to the schools providing lunches to their students in need every Friday
Though things may be tough, we remain committed to our mission and to our community. With that, we are keeping a positive outlook about our “FUNDRACER” for next year, Sunday April 11th, 2021 and look forward to seeing all of your smiling faces then!

Registration will open soon for next year’s race. Keep an eye out!

We thank you for helping us support our mission of providing food and shelter to vulnerable individuals and families in the Greater Nashua region in a dignified and sustainable manner.

Take care of each other and we will see you in 2021!
