NSKS Backpacks For Back To School

Our program collects new backpacks and school supplies for families trying to live on minimum wage, staying at our shelters, or coming to the soup kitchen for food. The NSKS staff works diligently with our client families to provide eligible children (Grade Kindergarten through 12th Grade) with a new backpack filled with new, grade-appropriate supplies.

Backpack Packing

Backpack packing will take place 8/3 through 8/7 and 8/10 through 8/14 with volunteer shifts from 9:30am to 12pm and 1:00pm through 3:30pm daily. No more than four volunteers will be scheduled at a time. The only time a larger volunteer group will be allowed on site, is if a family group of more than four members sharing a living space together wish to volunteer together. All volunteers that enter the building must wear masks, have their temperature taken, sanitize their hands, and sign a release form stating that they are not currently experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.

Backpack Distribution

Backpack Distribution will take place 8/18/2020 & 8/19/2020 with volunteer positions beginning at 7am and ending at 3pm. NSKS will need a minimum of 30 volunteers per day for distribution. Volunteer positions include Family Backpack Assistants, Check-In Desk, Backpack Replenishment, Line Control (enforcing social distancing), and more. Volunteers will be asked to have their temperature taken before distribution, wear masks and sanitize their hands frequently.

For those who wish to volunteer, please email Meghan at meghan@nsks.org as soon as possible. Volunteer slots will be filled on a first-come-first-serve basis.
